G1 Hardware

Slits

G1 has motorized, encoded slits controlled via SPEC through a serial interface.  Click here for their SPEC config file parameters. The three slits, from upstream to downstream, are named s1, s2, and sg (for guard slit).  Individual slit blades are labeled "t", "b", "n", and "s" for top, bottom, north (away from the G1 door) and south, e.g. s1t refers to the top blade of s1.  The sign convention at G1 is that positive is up for vertical motion and north (away from the G1 door) for horizontal motion.  This is currently true for all of the slits. (Do not assume it is true for the XZ jacks, since they are used in different orientations relative to the beam.

Thus, the configurations for S1 given below have been made. The other motors are equivalent:

for the addressing of the single motors:

Number Motor Blade steps per degree [mm] + - ms*

1   2   g

16 E s1t -3225.2 moves up moves down 1   1   1
17 F s1b -3225.2 moves up moves down 2   2   2
18 G s1s +3225.2 moves to ring moves to you 4   3   4
19 H s1n +3225.2 moves to ring moves to you 3   4   3

*ms: this denotes the motor number at the manual controls of the silver housings of the slits S1, S2 and Sg. In general the motor 3 always controls the slit on the manual control side and the motor 4 always that on the sign side (holds also for S3).

for the combined motor commands:

Number Motor combination of blades (gp1/gp2) + -
20 s1z s1b/s1t moves up moves down
21 s1v s1b/s1t opens closes
22 s1x s1s/s1n moves to ring moves to you
23 s1h s1s/s1n opens closes
