Multilayer cleaning
  1. clean multilayer using Q-tips and dish soap solution
  2. rinse thoroughly with methanol; use some kind of tray to catch overspilling liquid
  3. blow multilayer dry (can or nitrogen from backfill line)
  4. if necessary, repeat procedure
  5. let monochromator box dry for a couple of hours with nitrogen blowing into the mono box
Frequency: The first multilayer should be cleaned after each run. The second multilayer should be cleaned
after each running period.

After two week-ends operating in 1e-5 Torr a black strip appears where the wiggler beam hits the first multilayer.
This strip is burnt in and cannot be cleaned. However, deposits from the remaining active area of the multilayer should be removed. After 2 week-ends of running the first multilayer can be moved to a fresh strip.
