Venting and Pump-Down Procedures for the Mono Box

Mono Box Vacuum System

Venting

  1. notify CHESS operator that you are going to vent the mono box
  2. turn off cold cathode gauge controller (ops area, below control computer)
  3. close the valve on top of the turbo pump
  4. turn on the thermovac gauge
  5. turn off the turbo - the controller will vent it on its own
  6. vent the mono box
  7. dismount thermocouple gauge on mono box front door, cap KF flange
  8. disconnect turbo KF, blank off turbo KF flange, cap KF flange on door
  9. remove mono box front door
  10. leave N2 flow going while door is off

Pump-Down

  1. close N2 flow through mono box
  2. re-install door
  3. mount thermovac on KF
  4. reconnect turbo
  5. remove plug of valve control box from interlockes outlet and plug it into a regular power outlet
  6. open turbo valve
  7. turn on thermovac gauge
  8. start turbo and watch roughing of the box until turbo starts up (about half an hour)
  9. check vacuum every couple of hours
  10. when pressure below 1e-4 Torr on pump, switch off thermovac, turn on cold cathode gauge
  11. when cold cathode gauge reads 1e-4 solidly, put turbo valve back into the feedback:
  12. reset main interlock box in ops area
