Venting and Pump-Down
Procedures for the Mono Box
Mono Box Vacuum System
Venting
-
notify CHESS operator that you are going to vent the mono box
-
turn off cold cathode gauge controller (ops area, below control computer)
-
close the valve on top of the turbo pump
-
turn on the thermovac gauge
-
turn off the turbo - the controller will vent it on its own
-
vent the mono box
-
open valve below the N2 pressure gauge, until overpressure valve opens
-
open valve at box
-
watch thermovac gauge
-
close box valve at 760 Torr
-
close N2 valve
-
dismount thermocouple gauge on mono box front door, cap KF flange
-
disconnect turbo KF, blank off turbo KF flange, cap KF flange on door
-
remove mono box front door
-
leave N2 flow going while door is off
Pump-Down
-
close N2 flow through mono box
-
re-install door
-
mount thermovac on KF
-
reconnect turbo
-
remove plug of valve control box from interlockes
outlet and plug it into a regular power outlet
-
open turbo valve
-
turn on thermovac gauge
-
start turbo and watch roughing of the box until turbo
starts up (about half an hour)
-
check vacuum every couple of hours
-
when pressure below 1e-4 Torr on pump, switch off
thermovac, turn on cold cathode gauge
-
when cold cathode gauge reads 1e-4 solidly, put turbo
valve back into the feedback:
-
close turbo valve
-
plug valve controller into interlocked outlet
-
open turbo valve
-
reset main interlock box in ops area
